A Brief Review on Hydrophobic Modifications of Glycol Chitosan into Amphiphilic Nanoparticles for Enhanced Drug Delivery

Glycol chitosan (GC) is the derivative that capable of forming amphiphilic nanoparticles upon structure modifications at reactive functional amine group on polymer sugar backbone. Owing to hydrophilic feature GC and hydrophobic moieties can be added structure, modifiable nanosystems were constructed entrap poorly soluble drugs, mostly chemotherapeutic agents several anti-inflammatory, anaesthetic, immunosuppressant, antifungal drugs for more efficient delivery payload target site improving intended therapeutic effects. This review highlights various molecules used in chemical modification create drug delivery, along with summary their physicochemical criteria successful enhancement achieved application drug-loaded amphiphiles. The biodegradable, GC-based particularly having inner core outer shell are an system entrapment, protection targeting improve bioavailability safety drug, particular cancer treatment purposes. significant enhancements by these hydrophobically-modified may provide insights further use nanomedicine.
